Opdrachtgevers Bijbels Museum, Kunstlinie en NDSM FUSE zoeken drie Junior Tentoonstellingsmakers (Curatoren) die gezamenlijk een groepstentoonstelling maken met als werktitel No Time To Despair. In de tentoonstelling staat een hoopvolle toekomst centraal die nog niet zichtbaar is, maar er wel kan komen.

No Time To Despair richt zich op een divers en jong publiek en vormt een combinatie van jouw eigen signatuur met die van je twee collega’s en de wensen van de drie opdrachtgevers. Naast deze tentoonstelling op twee locaties (incl. twee openingen) zet je als driekoppig curatoren-team voor beide locaties ook een prikkelend activiteitenprogramma op. Welke inspirerende toekomstbeelden willen jullie als curatorenteam aan het publiek presenteren?

Wie zijn wij?

Het Bijbels Museum is een nomadisch museum dat samen met en bij partners tentoonstellingen maakt met hedendaagse kunst waarin zingeving centraal staat. De kunsthal van Kunstlinie maakt deel uit van het iconische cultuurcomplex in het hart van Almere, waarin ook drie theaterzalen zijn gevestigd. NDSM FUSE is een door kunstenaars gerunde presentatievloer voor hedendaagse kunst in de voormalige scheepsbouwloods op het NDSM-terrein in Amsterdam-Noord.

Het Bijbels Museum, Kunstlinie en NDSM FUSE hechten grote waarde aan diversiteit. Verschillende perspectieven, achtergronden en inzichten vergroten de denkkracht en handelingsperspectieven van een team. Het maakt niet uit waar je bent geboren, waar je in gelooft, wat voor opleiding je hebt genoten of van wie je houdt. We zijn vooral nieuwsgierig naar jou, jouw motivatie en ideeën.

Functieomschrijving

Het curatorenteam rapporteert op vaste momenten aan de drie opdrachtgevers. Als curatorenteam zijn jullie samen van het begin tot het eind voor alle facetten van dit project verantwoordelijk. Jullie selecteren kunst van hedendaagse makers met een eigen, vernieuwende en opbouwende toekomstvisie. Jullie produceren de expositie samen en zetten hem in de markt. Je krijgt als team een taakstellend budget (Fair Practice Code) waarbinnen je de tentoonstelling produceert.

De tentoonstelling is zes maanden in Kunstlinie (Almere) en zes weken in NDSM FUSE (Amsterdam) te zien.

Verantwoordelijkheden curatoren

• Schrijven van het projectplan voor de groepstentoonstelling inclusief tentoonstellingsvisie
• Uitwerken van het projectplan tot een ontwerp en dit laten uitvoeren
• Schrijven van inspirerende (zaal-)teksten in het Nederlands en Engels
• Projectmanagement: ateliers bezoeken, procesplanning, afstemmen van beslissingen met – en regelmatige rapportage aan – de drie opdrachtgevers
• Financieel management: budgetbeheer van taakstellend budget
• Op- en afbouw van de tentoonstelling, o.a. met de deelnemende kunstenaars
• Verzorgen van de marketing en communicatie voor de tentoonstelling (online en eventueel ook offline)
• Publieksprogrammering tijdens tentoonstelling ontwikkelen en begeleiden (activiteiten, rondleidingen etc.)
• Verslag leggen van de resultaten in een eindrapportage (inhoudelijk en financieel).

Wat is jouw profiel

Als Junior Tentoonstellingsmaker/Curator heb jij een heldere visie op en kennis van hedendaagse beeldende kunst en/of social design. Je hebt aantoonbaar binding met Almere of Amsterdam, waar de tentoonstelling wordt gepresenteerd, en hebt hier een relevant netwerk opgebouwd van gelijkgestemden en leeftijdsgenoten.

Je hebt een opleiding afgerond of enige relevante werkervaring opgedaan met een of meerdere van de bovengenoemde taken. We zoeken naar een divers, inclusief en gelijkwaardig curatoren-team. We vinden het belangrijk dat jij kunt beargumenteren wat voor tentoonstelling je wilt gaan maken en waarom jij degene bent die we zoeken. De rol van Junior Curator voor dit project kan niet worden gecombineerd met een studie (voltijd of deeltijd).

We verwachten dat je 13 maanden beschikbaar bent voor een gemiddelde van 20 uur per week. In drukke periodes en minder drukke periodes verwachten we flexibiliteit.

Wij bieden

• Een tijdelijke overeenkomst van opdracht voor gemiddeld 20 uur per week als zzp’er in de periode 1 september 2024 tot 1 oktober 2025. Het honorarium bedraagt €2100 exclusief BTW per maand voor 20 uur per week.
• Een dynamische werkomgeving in Almere en Amsterdam waarbij je beurtelings op locatie werkt bij de drie opdrachtgevers.
• Een reiskostenvergoeding (OV 2^e klas).

Hoe solliciteer je

Je sollicitatie bestaat uit drie documenten:

• Een brief met motivatie (max 1 x A4)
• Een beschrijving van wat je voor je ziet in de expo No Time To Despair, een tentoonstelling over een hoopvolle toekomst. Wat zijn jouw associaties bij dit thema? Kun je jouw eerste idee beschrijven of visualiseren in maximaal 2 A4? Je mag er mogelijke onderwerpen, kunstwerken en/of kunstenaars in vermelden.

Wat is de procedure

Reageren kan tot en met woensdag 29 mei 2024.

De sollicitatiegesprekken vinden plaats op:

1^e rondes: 10, 11 en 12 juni
Gesprek met een commissie met medewerkers van de drie opdrachtgevers.

2^e rondes: 17 en 18 juni
Een casus, die je met enkele andere sollicitanten samen en zonder voorbereiding gaat uitvoeren.

3^e ronde: 24 juni
Kennismaking met de andere twee junior curatoren, waarna contractbespreking volgt.

Acquisitie n.a.v. deze vacature wordt niet op prijs gesteld.

JOB ALERT: 3 Junior Exhibition Makers (Freelance)

20 hours per week (September 1, 2024 to October 1, 2025) for the new exhibition No Time To Despair, a project of Bijbels Museum, Kunstlinie, NDSM FUSE (clients).

Who we are

The Bijbels Museum creates touring exhibitions featuring contemporary art shown at partner venues across the Netherlands, aiming at providing opportunities for contemplation, motivation and inspiration. Kunstlinie’s art hall is part of the iconic cultural complex in the heart of Almere, which also houses three theaters. NDSM FUSE is an artist-run exhibition space for contemporary art located in the former shipbuilding warehouse on the NDSM site in Amsterdam-Noord.

The Bijbels Museum, Kunstlinie, and NDSM FUSE attach great importance to diversity. Different perspectives, backgrounds, and insights enhance the thinking and acting of a team. What you will do

Are you a budding creative, do you have a relevant network in Amsterdam or Almere and do you have unique ideas for an exhibition you want to realize? Can you collaborate effectively? Then we are looking for you!

The Bijbels Museum, Kunstlinie, and NDSM FUSE are looking for three Junior Exhibition Makers (Curators) to jointly create an exhibition titled No Time To Despair. The exhibition focuses on a hopeful future that is not yet visible but can come to fruition. What inspiring visions of the future do you, as a curatorial team, want to present to a diverse and young audience?

Your team will report to your three clients at fixed intervals. As a curatorial team, you are collectively responsible for all aspects of this project from start to finish. You will select art from contemporary makers with their own, innovative, and constructive future vision. You will produce the exhibition together and promote it. As a team, you will be given a budget (Fair Practice Code) within which you will produce the exhibition collectively.

The exhibition will be on display for six months at Kunstlinie (Almere) and six weeks at NDSM FUSE (Amsterdam).

No Time To Despair is a group exhibition that appeals to a broad and young audience and combines your own signature with that of your two colleagues and the wishes of the three clients. In addition to this exhibition at two locations (including two openings), you, as a three-member curatorial team, will also organize a stimulating activity program for both locations.

Curators’ responsibilities

• Writing the project plan for the group exhibition including exhibition vision

• Developing the project plan into a design and overseeing its execution

• Writing inspiring texts in Dutch and English

• Project management: visiting studios, process planning, coordinating decisions with – and regular reporting to – the three clients

• Financial management: budget management of task-based budget

• Set-up and breakdown of the exhibition with a.o. participating artists

• Handling marketing and communication for the exhibition (online and possibly offline)

• Public activity program during the exhibition (activities, guided tours, etc.): developing and overseeing

• Reporting the results in a final report (content and financial).

Who are you?

As a Junior Curator you have a clear vision and knowledge of contemporary visual art and/or social design. You have a demonstrable connection with Almere or Amsterdam, where the exhibition is presented, and have built up a relevant network of like-minded people and peers.

You have completed an education or gained some relevant work experience in one or more of the above-mentioned tasks. We are looking for a diverse, inclusive, and equal curatorial team. We believe it is important that you can argue what kind of exhibition you want to create and why you are the one we are looking for. The role of Junior Curator for this project cannot be combined with a study (full-time nor part-time).

We expect you to be available for 13 months, averaging 20 hours per week. We expect flexibility during busy and less busy periods.

What we offer

• A temporary (self-employed) agreement for an average of 20 hours per week as a freelancer in the period from September 1, 2024 to October 1, 2025. The fee is €2100 excluding VAT per month for 20 hours per week.

• A dynamic working environment in Almere and Amsterdam, where you will alternately work on-site at the three co-producers.

• A travel expense reimbursement (public transport, 2nd class).

1st rounds:     June 10, 11, and 12
Interview with a committee consisting of employees of the three clients.

2nd rounds:    June 17 and 18
A case, which you will execute together with several other applicants with only on site preparation.

3rd round:       June 24
Meeting with the other two Junior Curators.
